Dr. Amie Harwick, a sex and family therapist to the stars and author of several books on sex and relationships, died at her Hollywood Hills home on Saturday and her ex-boyfriend has been arrested on suspicion of her murder, authorities said Sunday.
Harwick, who was engaged to comedian Drew Carey 2018 before breaking it off a year later, was discovered on the ground beneath a third-story window by police after they received reports of a woman screaming at around 1:16 a.m. Saturday. Officers were met by Harwick's roommate, who told police Harwick was being assaulted inside their home. The roommate had jumped the wall and went to a neighbor's house to call police.
Her ex-boyfriend, Gareth Pursehouse, 41, of Playa Del Rey, was arrested by members of an FBI-LAPD Fugitive Task Force at around 4:30 p.m. Detectives say Harwick had previously filed a restraining order against him, but it had expired just two days prior to Harwick's death. He's currently being held on $2 million bail.
