(1) Simona Halep defeats Aryna Sabalenka 6-3, 6-4
Simona Halep continued her recent dominance with a win over Aryna Sabalenka. Halep, who last weekend won the Rogers Cup in Toronto moves on to face Kiki Bertens in the finals tomorrow afternoon. Haleps performance in Cincinnati guarantees she will maintain her number 1 ranking into the US Open. Sabalenka will move on to New Haven and the Connecticut Open where she will play a qualifier still to be named.
(2) Roger Federer defeats (11) David Goffin 7-6 (3), 1-1 (Goffin Retires)
Roger Federer moved on to the Western and Southern Open Final, after opponent David Goffin retired early in the second set due to an injury. Federer advances to his 8th final in Cincinnati. He is 7-0 in Western and Open finals. Federer will play Novak Djokovic. David Goffin was scheduled to compete in the ATP 250 tournament in Winston Salem, North Carolina. His status for that tournament is now uncertain.
