The earthquake was centered in Calama at a depth of 99 kilometers (about 61.5 miles). The USGS said it received 25 reports of people having felt the earthquake at the time of publication.

The Chile earthquake struck hours after a 4.7-magnitude earthquake was reported in California on Wednesday (January 1), according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered in Cobb at a depth of 1.1 kilometers (about 0.7 miles).

The Cobb earthquake struck days after a 3.3-magnitude earthquake was reported in Alaska on Monday (December 30), according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered in Nikolski at a depth of 39.5 kilometers (about 25 miles).

The Alaska earthquake struck hours after a 3.3-magnitude earthquake was reported in California on Monday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered in Fort Bidwell at a depth of 3.4 kilometers (about 2.1 miles).

The Fort Bidwell earthquake struck days after a 6.7-magnitude earthquake was reported on the Kuril Islands on December 27, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered at a depth of 162.6 kilometers (about 101 miles).

The Kuril Islands earthquake was reported hours after a 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck Alaska on December 26, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered in McCarthy at a depth of 8.1 kilometers (about five miles).

The Alaska earthquake struck hours after a 3.0-magnitude earthquake was reported in California on December 25, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered in Clayton at a depth of 13.2 kilometers (about 8.2 miles).

The California earthquake struck two days after a 5.9-magnitude earthquake was reported in Cuba on December 23, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered in Guisa at a depth of 22.2 kilometers (about 13.8 miles).
