148th edition of My Random Thoughts: Sports, TV, music, food, life.....
Every New Year's Eve, my grandma would have us bang pots and pans out the patio door for good luck.
Coffee shop discovery: The Black Goose in Union. A coffee shop, bakery, gift shop and antique store. Cool place.
Song I cranked the radio to this week: All Right Now (Free)
Guess I should buy some IU gear. Hey, I did attend journalist camp there one summer in high school. My sister graduated from there.
I enter my 30th year of radio since coming back to Cincinnati. Heck yeah! Blessed.
Raise your hand if you went to bed with Ole Miss up 34-24 on Georgia with 9:04 remaining.
We played Mario Kart on Christmas Eve with Peyton's Nintendo Switch! Let the record show I won the final race of the night with Tanooki Mario!
I enjoy channel surfing into a chapter of Ken Burn’s ‘Baseball’ and the narration of John Chancellor.
Kelly and I stand around our kitchen island and eat gelato from Golden Gelato (Covington). Casey and Peyton got us gold spoons, with our names on them for Christmas!
The writing in 'Landman', especially the episode with the funeral for Tommy's mom, is just so dang good.
When we were kids, my dad rented a hotel room overlooking Times Square on New Year's Eve. What a scene.
I attended the 1996 Rose Bowl parade and the game between Northwestern and USC. I'll never forget being on the field when the Trojans marching band played Tusk.
We checked out Kaylah's Place in Verona. An excellent breakfast place that's worth the drive. Thanks listener Randy Lawrence who first recommended it in an email back in April.
The Harlem Globetrotters were in town this week. I loved watching them on the Wide World of Sports: Meadowlark Lemon, Curly Neal, Goose Tatum! The bucket of confetti and water!
TV show worth checking out: Task, with Mark Ruffalo. HBO Max.
Tough to beat a Christmas stocking as a kid with Big League Chew and Slim Jim!
My sense is UC fans have a much different idea of “momentum... something bigger" for 2026 than John Cunningham does in his letter to fans.
New Year's resolution: Listen to more vinyl. I listened to Jackson Browne's Lawyers In Love today.
Really enjoyed the movie 'Eternity'...a throwback rom-com that is fun and thought provoking. Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller and Callum Turner are really good. I'm turning the concept into a sports related Off The Beaten Path topic.
It's great that Sal Stewart has lost 26 pounds. I guess I'd ask why did he reach the big leagues needing to lose 26 pounds?
Kelly and Peyton engaged in a Stranger Things: Season 5 marathon when Peyton was home. I did not.
We watched Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest and it was lights out by 12:05AM.
Casey and Peyton bought us a dry erase board for the garage to track items in our freezer. It stems from my discovery of tilapia that expired in 2018. I had created a list of items and been printing it out.
I reserve the right to change my opinion, based on new/changing evidence. I think everyone should be willing to do that.
I really wish fans would stop believing the Bengals don't have money to spend because they gave it to Joe, Ja'Marr and Tee. It's just not true. What I can't figure out is why fans would give the front office a pass on money, of all things? It feels like some fans just want to resent the Big 3 for making a lot of money.
Another movie worth streaming: Roofman with Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst. True story. Little predictable. But good performances.
Don't worry about things you don't care about.
