Chiefs deliver dagger, beat Bengals 26-25 as time expires

Harrison Butker booted a 51-yard field goal as time expired to drive a dagger into the now 0-2 Bengals.

The Chiefs faced 4th & 16 at their own 35 with :48 left in the game. A 29-yard PI penalty on Bengals rookie Daijan Anthony kept the drive alive. That set up to the game-winner four plays later.

Evan McPherson’s 53-yard FG had given the Bengals at 25-23 win lead with 9:28 remaining.

Bengals led 3-0, 10-3, 13-10, 16-10, trailed 17-16, led 22-17 to the 4th, trailed 23-22, led 25-23.

Big sequence: Bengals got the ball back with 6:57 left in the game and up 25-23. Burrow/Iosivas missed on a 2nd down pass, forcing 3rd & 6 with 3:27. Burrow sacked. Punt 2:47.

Offense:
3rd down: 4 of 13......Red zone: FG, TD, FG, TD....Points off 3 TO: TD, FG.

Big answer to start 3rd QT: KC 13 plays, 70 yards, 6:39,TD for lead. Mahomes pass to OL. Bengals 11 plays, 70 yards, 6:05 to take back lead

TE: 14-151 yards. 1st half 9-113 1st half (most TE yards Burrow era/CBS). Drew Sample 3-28, Gesicki 7-91 (big drop 4th QT), All Jr. 4-32 (1st NFL catch)

Burrow: 23-36-258-2 TD, 3 sack, fumble TD, QB rating 103.7. Pretty deep ball to Jermaine Burton 47-yards + Gesicki 37 yards. Passed up open space run at KC 12 for end zone pass that hit Irwin in the facemask, then sack, forced settle FG. 3rd & 2 scramble for 4 yards to KC 11. Hammered on 3rd & inches keeper conversion. Fumbled into a KC 37-yard TD return for KC 23-22 lead early 4th QT.

Andrei Iosivas: 2 TD

Big sequence: Leading 22-17, CTB made a one handed pick to end the 3rd QT. But three plays later Burrow fumbled into a KC TD return and 23-22 KC lead..

Zac Taylor:
-Went for it 4th and 4 at KC 44 on opening drive. Burrow hit Gesicki for 37 yards. Settled for red zone/22-yard FG. 10 plays/66 yard…3/57 to TE. 1st lead off season.
-Went for it. 4th & goal at 3…Iosivas 3-yard TD, 22-17 lead.
-No 2 point attempt up 5 late 3rd? McPherson missed PAT. 22-17. .

Ja’Marr Chase: 4-35.

Jermaine Burton: 47-yard catch.

Chase Brown: 4 rushes/31 yards. Big 4th QT 12-yard run. Moss 12-34.

Lots of movement/motion. Big. Physical. Multiple TE packages. 1st two passes to Sample. 6th OL with Cody Ford.

Penalties:
False start Trent Brown on 1st down blew up a 2nd drive.
Hold Orlando Brown blew up a 4th QT drive.
Chase 15-yard penalty for yelling at the official late 4th. Burrow got in his face, pushed. Chase and Zac jawed. Bailed out by 53-yard FG for lead.
Anthony: 29-yard PI, earlier penalty wiped out DJ Turner INT

Defense:

Patrick Mahomes: 18-25-151, 2 sacks, 2 TD, 2 INT, QB rating 80.6. Travis Kelce, 1 catch, 5 yards, 3 targets

Akeem Davis Gaither INT 2nd drive + 12 yard return. Led to TD.
Sheldon Rankins forced fumble/Germaine Pratt recovery 3:01 left half. Led to FG.
CTB one hand pick to end 3rd.

KC marched 13 plays/70 yards for opening drive 2nd half TD: Mahomes pass to OL.

Trey Hendrickson: Sack late half forced punt. 2nd down sack 8:40 left in the game.

Opening drive FG hold at one yard line for 19-yard FG/16 plays/69 yards.

Chaos on interior DL with injuries to Sheldon Rankins and B.J. Hill. Hill (knee) limped to the sideline in 2nd. Did not return. Rankins shaken up/walked off 1st drive 3rd QT.
