The Reds blasted three more homers to sweep the Yankees for the first time since the 1976 World Series.
The Reds jumped to leads of 5-0, 3-0 and 5-0 in the series…and never trailed. They clobbered seven homers in a series full of contributions from up and down the roster.
Series offense: 7 HR, 7 1B, 2 3B, 1 2B. HR in the series: Elly, Benson, Fairchild, Marte, Martini, India, Steer.
It’s the first time the Yankees have ever been swept at home in a three-game interleague series.
Jonathan India: 3 H, HR.
Nick Martini: HR, BB. 1st HR since May 23 (18 games).
Spencer Steer: 3-run HR.
Jake Fraley: 2 H, 3B, 3RBI, SB (12). Big 3-run 3B in 7th when it was 5-2. Had gone 18 games without an RBI. 2 RBI in previous 33 games. Had 9 RBI on the season.
Montas: 5+ IN, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 4 K, 93 pitches/53 strikes. Took a one-hit shutout to the 5th before solo HR by Austin Wells and Ben Rice. Threw 53 pitches combined 4th/5th after 39 in the first three. Done after Verdugo 2B opened 6th. 2 K Judge. Escaped 4th inning/2 out trouble: 2B, BB, 28 pitches.
Elly: 1B, BB, HBP, SB, 2 R. Threw runner out at plate on contact play in 6th.
Will Benson: Made a hell of a catch, banging into the CF wall.
Bullpen:
Martinez: 2 IN, 2-R Soto HR
8th: Wilson
9th: Moll
SP in series: 6 runs.
India grounded out to SS on the first pitch of the game. The Reds challenged the pre-pitch positioning of Anthony Volpe, believing his feet were touching the start of the outfield grass. Challenge denied.
Luke Maile hobbled to 1B on a ground out, but remained in the game. Later made a nice tag on the plate.
