Lodolo deals, Espinal homers, Reds flash leather in win

Nick Lodolo was filthy, tossing seven dominant innings and allowing just one run. Santiago Espinal hit a two-run homer for the offense. The Reds flashed big-time leather. Spencer Steer went over the wall in left field to take a two-run homer away from Michael A. Taylor. Stuart Fairchild saved the lead with a back to home plate running grab in CF with a runner on in the 8th that resulted in a double play. Alexis Diaz sealed the deal, disposing of the middle of the Pirates order. 

The Reds snap a three game skid and will go for a series win on Wednesday afternoon. 

Lodolo: 7 IN, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 8 K, 10th HBP, 95 pitches/62 strikes. ERA 2.76. Ke’Bryan Hayes HR in 7th snapped a string of 11 straight batters retired. 
Escaped 2nd & 3rd/2 out jam in 3rd. 4th straight Quality Start. 6th QS (6-0). 1st Reds pitcher to win 8 of 11 starts to begin a season since Jack Armstrong (‘90). 

Bullpen:
Cruz got PH O'Neil Cruz + top of Pirates order....protecting 1 run lead in 8th. 1.0, BB.
Alexis Diaz: Retired 3-4-5 hitters in order. That’s nine straight saves and 16 of 18 overall.

Espinal: HR. Season: 4 HR, 4 sac flies, 4 sac bunts.

Jeimer Candelario: H. Left in 8th after tweaking his leg.

Defense: Steer robbed Michael A. Taylor of a 2-run HR in the 5th. India made a nice running catch into right field. Fraley made a night catch in RF. Fairchild running catch of Bryan Reynolds for DP in 8th.
