Padres 6 Reds 4 (10)

The Padres scored twice in the 10th to hand the Reds their 8th consecutive series defeat. The Reds plummet to 20-30, a season-worst 10 games under .500.

Luis Arreaz bunted for a hit to open the 10th, for his second consecutive four hit game. With runners on the corners, an RBI double by Fernando Tatis off Sam Moll gave the Padres the lead.

Mike Ford came to the plate as the potential winning run with two on in the 10th. He popped out. Spencer Steer then popped out to end the game.

The Padres pounced on Frankie Montas for two runs in each of the first two innings. Trailing 4-2 into the 6th, the Reds evened things with a two-run rocket by Nick Martini.

The Reds have dropped 17 of 21 overall and 9 of 10 at GABP.

Frankie Montas: 6 IN, 9 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 94 pitches/64 strikes.
Felt like he was in for a short afternoon. Gave up 2 in 1st. 2 more after loading bases w/ 0 outs in 2nd.

Offense: 8 H, 4 BB, 16 K.

How they scored:
1st: Candelario RBI 3B, 1-1
2nd: Hurtubise RBI 1B, 4-2 Padres
6th: Martini 2-R HR, 4-4

Long time: Martini 2 H, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI. Snapped 0 for 17. 1st hit since April 29th.
Also sailed a relay throw from RF and allowed a second run to score on a Machado double.

The Rook: Jacob Hurtubise H, R, 1st MLB RBI, 1st MLB SB. His body type and movements remind me of Jay Bruce.

Good sign: Spencer Steer reached base 3x with a H, 2 BB

Yikes: Jonathan India 3 K ....at .208. Will Benson 0 for 3, BB, 2K...at .188. 72 K in 182 PA.

Yeeeeer out! Candelario was out attempting to steal home on the back end of a 1st inning delayed double steal. Manny Machado made a big time charging backhand throw to the plate to cut down Elly trying to score from 3rd on contact in the 5th. Will Benson was out trying to steal 2nd in the 6th.

Jeimer Candelario: 3B, RBI

Elly: 2B, SB (31)

Bullpen: Cruz 1.0 (7th), Sims 1.0 (8th), Diaz 1.0 (9th) ...allowed 2B, then picked off runner. Moll 0.1 (10th)...2 R, 1 ER….Farmer 0.2 (10th).

Crazy: Padres reliever Enyel De Los Santos served up the Martini HR. The last six hits he's allowed have been homers.

2 SB: Reds had gone five straight games w/o SB.

Machine: Luis Arraez followed his four hit Wednesday with four more hits. He had 10 hits in the series. He has eight consecutive multi-hit games.

Fernando Cruz struck him out in an 11 pitch showdown in the 7th. Arrae entered w/ 2 K in 73 PA w/ Padres and 13 in 221 PA overall.

Transactions: The Reds placed RHP Emilio Pagán (right triceps tightness) on the 15-day injured list retroactive to May 20; selected the contract of RHP Brett Kennedy; designated for assignment OF Bubba Thompson. Kennedy's ERA is 6.86. I'd assume he's here because he has not pitched since May 16th. He can mop up, if needed, and be sent back when Nick Lodolo is activated on Monday.
