Joey Votto signed a minor league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays on March 9.
On March 17, Votto stepped into the batter’s box for the first time in a spring training game. He homered on the first pitch he saw.
He then rolled his ankle while stepping down into the Toronto dugout.
He has not played in any level of a game since. It’s been 57 days.
He is currently listed on the Injured List with the Buffalo Bison, the Jays Triple-A team. Updates have been few and far between.
He’s had one swing in a game since October 1, his final game with the Reds.
The 40-year old hit .205 last season and hit .204 in his final 618 plate appearances over 2022 and 2023.
According to MLB.com, his deal with the Jays is worth $2M if he makes the ML team, and includes $2M in incentives.
