Brewers 7 Reds 2

Quick Cap: I would have taken a rainout. After a nearly two our rain delay, the Brewers pounced on Hunter Greene for two runs in the first inning and five runs in the first two innings on the way to a 7-2 win over the Reds. After falling behind 9-1 Tuesday night, the Reds trailed 6-0 Wednesday. They have now dropped back to back games for the first time this season to stand 6-6 overall.

Hunter Greene: 6 IN, 6 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 9 K, 2 HR, 2 HBP, 105 pitches/68 strikes. He allowed runs in four of six innings pitched.
Two run 1st, three run 2nd. Leadoff batters: 1st inning, BB, R....2nd inning, HBP, R. 4th inning, HBP, R. 50 pitches first two innings. He was late backing up a throw home, allowing two runners to move up. Mets had 26 foul balls off Greene's 71 strikes in his last start. Brewers 23 of 68 strikes. He entered the game having 34.6 percent of strikes fouled off. Last year it was 31.7.

Wade Miley: 4 IN, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 0 K....52 pitches after coming off the IL.
9 up, 9 down on 35 pitches to start the game. Stuart Fairchild's two-out 4th inning RBI single was the Reds first of the night.

Notes:

About that trend: The Reds began the night having alternated results over their previous 7 games: L-W-L-W-L-W-L....

About that O: 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, 2 strikeout.....just 31 trips to the place and faced just 111 pitches.

Brewing the O: The Brewers have scored in 11 of 27 innings in the series. 1-run in three times, 2-runs three times, 3-runs five times.

Elly stuff: HR (110.4 mph), 1B (102.5 mph). On bases 13 times last five games.

Walk this way: CES walked for the first time this season (52nd plate appearance) and scored. Also made a heck of a catch on the tarp.

Reds killer: Christian Yelich clubbed a two-run 1st inning homer. He's reached base in 22 consecutive games. That's 13 HR in 45 career games at GABP.
He began the night second in HR (21) and RBI (63) among opponents vs Reds since 2019...trailing Ian Happ.

Earn it: Poor throw for an error by Spencer Steer allowed another unearned run, after three on Tuesday night and one Monday. A total of five unearned runs allowed in the series.

My head hurts: Jeimer Candelario (HBP) was cut down going 1st to 3rd on Fairchild's RBI 1B...down five runs....to end the developing threat.

3rd/4th spots in order: CES and Candelario were a combined 0 for 6 with a R, BB, HBP. CES stung two balls at 106.6 and 99.0.

Reds rotation in three games of series: 16.2 IN, 21 H, 14 ER, 3 HR, 300 pitches (Ashcraft, Montas, Greene)

Pluck it: Reds pitchers hit three Brewers. Brewers pitching hit one Reds.

How they scored:

4th: Fairchild RBI 1B, 6-1
5th: Elly HR, 6-2
