Quick Cap: Just when it looked like the Reds were headed for their first series loss of the season, they turned the tables with a five run 8th to rally from a three run deficit and beat the Mets 9-6. They will now try to take their third straight series on Sunday. .
Notes:
The Reds led 2-0 in the 2nd, trailed 5-2 in the 5th, cut it to 5-4 in the 6th and then went ahead 9-5 in the 8th.
Crazy 8: Trailing 5-4 in the 8th, the first seven Reds reached. They batted around and scored five times. Elly’s check swing single brought home the tying run. Spencer Steer blasted a three run HR (3) for an 8-5 lead. Bubba Thompson pinch ran and then got to hit in the inning. It was his first PA as a Red and he struck out.
Elly: Reached 3X, H, BB, E, 2 RBI, 3 R, SB. 13 game hit streak. Made a heck of a running catch down the LF line.
Steer: 2 H, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, SB
Stuart Fairchild: 2 H. Ended Reds 0 for 16 stretch w/ RISP with a pinch-hit RBI single in the 6th.
Nick Martinez: 5 IN, 8 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 6 K, 92 pitches/49 strikes.
The wheels started coming off after three scoreless innings. He allowed four runs in the 4th and another in the 5th.
