Worth the wait: Reds beat Phillies 4-1, take series

Reds 4 Phillies 1

Quick Cap: Well, it proved to be worth the wait. The Reds weathered a 3:55 rain delay, got another stellar start by Frankie Montas and took their second consecutive series, beating the Phillies 4-1. A CES two-run double put the Reds on the board in the 3rd and it stood up.

Finally: Originally scheduled for a 1:05 start, and moved to 4:05 Tuesday night, the game finally got started at 8pm. It was brutal. The winds wreaked havoc on balls in the air. Things got worse as the night went on.

Frankie Montas: 5.2 IN, 5 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 5 K, HR, 100 pitches/63 strikes.
He was attacking from the jump. He cruised to the 6th with a 3-0 lead before Kyle Schwarber opened the frame with a frozen rope homer. The Phils then knocked him out when three straight batters reached after two were out. In two starts, Montas has allowed 1 ER in 11.2 IN. (0.77 ERA).

Bats
Six hits/four 2B…all w/ 2 outs..and a 3B
CES: 2 H, 2-run 2B
Elly: Extended his hit streak to 11 games w/ RBI 2B.
Ouch: Candelario winced on a swing. Doubled on the next pitch. Left the game.
That would not be good news. Next man up from Louisville?
They struck out 15 more times

Bullpen
Wilson: 0.1…came on to retire Brandon Marsh w/ 2 outs and bases juiced 6th.
Sims: 1.0
Cruz: 1.0
Diaz: 1.0. Umpires gathered and checked him at length for a foreign substance prior to him taking the mound. He was allowed to resume. Hmmm.

Oh boy: Nick Castellanos can’t field, can’t run the bases, strikes out…and is owed  $60M the next three seasons.

Atta boy: Nifty move by Nick Krall to add Wilson as a free agent on March 15.

How they scored
T3: CES rocketed a 2-run 2B, 2-0 Reds …it was their first hit of the game.
T6: Elly RBI 2B, 3-0
T9: Martini RBI 1B, 4-1

Next: The 4-2 Reds have an off day Thursday before welcoming the Mets to town for a three game series starting Friday night.
