Reds: Who gets the last spot?

With the Reds extending a non-roster spring training invite to Josh Harrison yesterday, comes the question of how he fits with the Reds?

As spring training opens, 12 position player spots seem to be taken on the 2024 Cincinnati Reds. That, of course, is all subject to health.

Locks: Tyler Stephenson, Luke Maile, Jeimer Candelario, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Matt McLain, Jonathan India,

Elly De La Cruz, Noelvi Marte, Spencer Steer, TJ Friedl, Jake Fraley, Will Benson.

That leaves one open spot. Who does it go to? Who should it go to?

Three most likely options for consideration:

OF Stuart Fairchild: 27-year old, RH bat, 31 ML starts in CF.

Plays LF-CF-RF. Three ML seasons. .230-.322-.402-.724

in 155 games, 382 plate appearances.

SS/OF Jose Barrero: Turns 26 in April. RH bat. Out of options. Would be exposed to waivers if doesn’t make the team.

.186 in 447 ML plate appearances/parts four ML seasons.

20 ML starts in CF. 2023 at Louisville: 19 HR/20 SB.

UTL Josh Harrison: 36 years old. RH bat. 13 ML seasons. .270-.316-.396-.712. Has mostly played 3B-2B-LF-RF.

$1.5M if he makes the team. March 21 opt out.
