69th edition of My Random Thoughts: Sports, TV, music, food, life.....
Things that popped into my head this week.....
I rarely fly. Imagine my surprise after recently booking a flight and learning I had to then purchase a seat on all four flights (connection each way). Prices ranged from $10 to $40 a seat. What a scam.
The only conflict that Kelly and I are currently experiencing: I'm a biiiiiig fan of Jennifer Lopez. Kelly is nooooooot a big fan of Jennifer Lopez.
What a CBB weekend within a 13 mile trek between Norwood and Highland Heights: UC and XU hosting Top 25 teams with their NCAA tournament resumes needing help. NKU at home with Marquez Warrick 20 points from becoming the school's all-time leading scorer.
I'd think the final position player spot for the Reds, right now, would be between Stuart Fairchild, Jose Barrero and Josh Harrison.
As I get older I'm finding ways to be more efficient in everything I do. I have dramatically reduced wasted time, wasted effort and wasted concerns.
I was driving 71 North this week and the driver next to me was....brushing his teeth.......at 65 miles per hour.
It's a grind and a gauntlet and tamps down the win total, but UC playing big games in the Big 12 teams sure as heck beats playing East Carolina, Tulane, Tulsa, etc.
I was planning on doing a Taylor Swift topic this week...based around the impact on your viewing. But with conspiracy theories and politics entering the equation, "I'm out." Not worth it.
Don't worry about things you don't care about. I moved this up in hopes that more people take note of it. Trust me. You'll find life becoming so much better.
XU guard Quincy Olivari might very well be the most enjoyable student-athlete interview I've done over the years. Genuine. Appreciative. Articulate. Thoughtful. It was one of those conversations that you lose track of the fact you are actually on the air.
I'm not a Super Bowl party guy. I want to watch the game. I don't want constant conversation.
Jodie Foster is really, really good in True Detective. But I really, really have no idea what's going on in that show.
Song I heard for the first time in a long time.....and remembered how damn good it is: 'Show Me The Way", Peter Frampton. Instrumentally and vocally superb.
Comment section stuff: Google is perfect for questions of 'who'? And an 'I don't care' response really is better left unsaid.
For the first time, maybe ever, I watched The Grammys start to finish. The Tracy Chapman/Luke Combs duet was incredible.
'Dust in the Wind' (Kansas) is such a hauntingly good song....from lyrics to chorus to instrumental.
The biggest of my flaws are being an introvert and having no patience.
I'm behind on this, but check out The Bear (Hulu). Excellent. Big fan of Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri. A young chef from the fine dining world comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop after a death in his family.
Only 2.9 percent of Reds fans surveyed by The Athletic gave David Bell a 1 on an approval scale of 1-5. I think I heard from all of them Tuesday night. Weird how that works.
Kelly likes to point out that I snore. But she says she nudges me, instead of waking me up. To be clear, unless I'm awakened, I'm not buying that I snore.
Brewery No. 62 within 50 miles of home was Hofbrauhaus (Newport). Really nice Hefeweizen and Dunkel.
I'm always looking for guest/topic ideas: Email me lance@lancemcalister.com.
Once again this year I'll ask you to say it with me: Super Bowl Saturday Night! Just imagine. Come on NFL, try it. One year. Once.
I'm a Miley Cyrus fan. It clearly stems from watching every Hannah Montana episode when Casey and Peyton were growing up.
We watched Stillwater (2021) with Matt Damon. Pass on it. Too many plot holes. Bummed we gave up 2 hours 20 minutes.
Don't overlook the fact this XU team is missing nearly 5,000 minutes of CBB experience without Zach Freemantle (2,771) and Jerome Hunter (2,224).
Thank you for reading this and supporting the show.
