Things that popped into my head this week.....

One more week until Peyton gets home after spending the semester in the Netherlands! What a Christmas present!

I root for this Jake Browning story. But I'd recommend tapping the breaks......at least a little.

Ever refuse to eat your vegetables as a kid? Remember eventually caving to threats by your parents, only to realize your milk to wash the broccoli down was warm?

Don't worry about who plays where for the Reds. You can never have too much talent.

We got to another music venue this week: 20th Century Theater on Madison Road. My mom and dad had many dates there over 65 years ago. We saw Maggie Rose (one of our favorites from Nashville two years ago), followed by Andy Frasco and the U.N.

We painted Casey's old room. No more NY Giants/Eli Manning blue and red. I also took apart his bed. Man, it kind of feels like we painted over and disassembled his childhood.

One of my most often asked life questions: What's the downside?

Still want the Bengals to tank?

I have the DVD set of The White Shadow. I don't even have a DVD player, but that was a great show.

If the game of baseball was invented today, nobody would use batting average. It's just hits divided by official at-bats. What about the rest of the at-bats, all the ways a batter gets on base, doesn't make an out, or even the type of hit?

I'm not handy. At all. Ask Kelly. Shout out to Kyle Breeden of Affordable Handyman Services and his crew of Eric and Adam. They painted our kitchen, a couple of bedrooms and did repairs/upgrades to our back deck. Excellent work.

Wait, the Bengals have a TE, a tandem RB and Zac Taylor can gameplan, play call and win games without Joe Burrow, after all.

The passing of basketball legend George McGinnis reminds me of watching the Pacers at Market Square Arena in the early 80's. Coach Bob 'Slick' Leonard, Alex English, James Edwards, 'Sonar' Joe Hassett, Mike Bantom, Jerry Schisting, Louis Orr, Steve Stepanovich, etc.

I need to be more accepting of, despite what facts I offer up, some people just want to think how they think, despite those facts.

Two beers I've recently enjoyed: Tangerine Wheat by Lost Coast Brewing in Eureka, CA and the Avalanche Amber Ale by Breckenridge Brewing in Littleton, Colorado. Thumbs up to both.

The Bengals have gone from a Super Bowl contender to an underdog to root for.

It seems UC's better players believe in Scott Satterfield.

Some people get mad at me for being optimistic. I won't apologize for that.

Duke Tobin traded Billy Price for B.J. Hill.

Would you rather have Tyler Glasnow for the next 5 years at $135M and trading players to get him.....or Hunter Greene for 6 years at $53M?

Andy Frasco and the U.N. were unlike any band we have ever seen. No doubt the most fun we've ever had at ANY concert. Not even sure how to describe the night. I'll start with insane and energetic chaos.

It is going to be fascinating to see how this Jake Browning offense is morphed into the Joe Burrow offense next season. I was struck by Kyle Caskey's line this week: "The Bengals are running an offense for the 'collective', not the individual."

I root for good, kind people. Karina and Edgar, owners of La Torta Loca, are good, kind people. Love their newest location in Crescent Springs.

I was a big fan of Hill Street Blues....from the theme music by Mike Post ....to Sergeant Esterhaus and 'hey, let's be careful out there".....the duo of Andy Renko/Bobby Hill......Mick Belker's growl....and the opening shot of Veronica Hamel in the bubble bath.

I like that Shane Bieber is a proven veteran that knows how to pitch. I don't like his previous elbow and shoulder issues, or the fact he went from striking out 14.7 batters per 9 innings in 2020 to whiffing just 7.5 per 9 innings last season. That's a lot more balls in play.

Words to live by from musician Andy Frasco: Take the wins. We take a lot of L's in life. Take the wins when you get 'em. Enjoy 'em.

Don't worry about the things you don't care about
