CFB playoff points I've thought about, read about and heard about

CFB playoffs

I have cobbled together a running list of CFB playoff points I've thought about, read about and heard about since Sunday. I will continue to add throughout the day.

If you were a Michigan fan, would you rather play Florida State or Alabama in the semifinals? Why?

Florida State went 13-0 in a Power 5 conference, beat their rival Florida with a 2nd-string QB, then beat No. 15 Louisville in the ACC title game with a 3rd-string QB.

When Kurt Warner uses his 2008 Arizona Cardinals Super Bowl team (9-7) as a ’anything can happen’ example, he misses the point. The CFB playoffs are an invitational. Teams get invited to the playoffs. NFL teams qualify for the playoffs.

Please stop with the ‘Ohio State made it to the CFB playoffs with a 3rd string quarterback storyline’ ....The Buckeyes made a definitive statement about their capabilities with 3rd stringer Cardale Jones by annihilating Wisconsin 59-0 in the Big 10 championship game

Florida State 3rd string QB Brock Glenn completed 8 of his 21 passes for 55 yards and produced 16 points in the ACC championship win against Louisville.

The CFB playoff committee selection guidelines includes: “other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.”

Does anyone really think FSU, with a backup QB, is better than Alabama?

Does the term ‘most deserving’ not apply to 12-0 Liberty?

The gap between 'most deserving' and 'best' is FSU QB Jordan Travis.

Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy has failed to top 148 passing yards in four consecutive games: 147-148-141-60.

Wins vs teams in CFB playoff rankings: Alabama 4, FSU 2.
FSU: No. 13 LSU, No. 15 Louisville
Alabama: No. 1 Georgia, No. 11 Ole Miss, No. 13 LSU, No. 21 Tennessee

Strength of Schedule: Florida State: No. 55, Alabama: No. 5

Since the Jordan Travis injury, Florida State’s defense has allowed one TD over 38 possessions and held Florida (232) and Louisville (188) to a season low in yards.

We’ve gone from voters picking a national champion to a computer picking teams to play for the title, to a committee of 13 people.

FSU: 219 yards of offense vs Louisville…with a 3rd string QB. Michigan: 213 yards of offense vs Iowa…with a starting QB.

Combined record of Florida State opponents: 67-76.

If we all agree the SEC is the best conference in the country, how would you justify leaving the SEC champion out of the playoffs?

The committee only dropped Florida State one spot, from No. 4 to No. 5.

Next year these arguments will be about 10-2/9-3 teams fighting for the 12th playoff spot.

The committee decided No. 5 Florida State wasn’t considered one of the four best teams without their starting QB, but believes they are better than No. 6 Georgia?

Florida State opened a 14 point underdog to Georgia in the Orange Bowl

CFP committee chairman Boo Corrigan on ESPN: "In the eyes of the committee, Florida State is a different team without Jordan Travis. One of the things we do consider is player availability. Our job is to rank the best teams, and in the final decision looking at it was Alabama at four and Florida State at five"

Kirk Herbstreit on ESPN: “Florida State, to me, without Jordan Travis, they’re not one of the best four," he said. "They have an undefeated record. They won the ACC. It’s a heck of an accomplishment. But without their guts, their pulse, their heart and soul Jordan Travis? Look at them these last two weeks. You’re gonna tell me that’s one of the best four teams in the country? Come on. That’s ridiculous.”

This was simply about what the committee thinks will happen. If that's the case, let Vegas pick the matchups for all bowls.

What would the committee have done if Florida State had initially said they were hopeful QB Jordan Travis could return from his injury by the January 1 semifinals?

Did anyone think UC basketball was the best team in the country after losing Kenyon Martin?
