Things that popped into my head this week.....

I'm honored to cast a vote for the Heisman Trophy again this year. My three name ballot is due Monday afternoon and per guidelines, my selections can't be publicly discussed until after next Saturday's announcement.

MLB starting pitchers averaged a tick over 5 innings per start last year. That means bullpens covered 3-4 innings per start. Smart teams invest in their bullpen.

My Kroger journey this week included the search for corn starch. I refused to ask for help or text Kelly. I eventually turned to the Kroger app on my phone to search the aisle. Still struggled. Eventually found it.

We were going to purchase $10 tickets in advance of a music event this weekend. The TicketMaster service charge on a total of $20 in tickets was an additional $19. Why would anyone do that?

A food staple of my childhood: Chef Boyardee Beef Ravioli!

Desmond Howard and Pat McAfee have made ESPN College GameDay unwatchable.

Did you ever have the handheld baseball game with the pitch controller you pulled out on a cord for two players? Coleco also produced one called Head-to-Head that was shaped like a stadium.

Props to Chef Mark at New Orleans inspired Laveau on Ft. Square. His crab cakes with corn maque choux and tasso tartar sauce are the best I've ever had.

Joey Votto joined me on stage to open Sports Talk at Redsfest in 2011. Bob Castellini was brought up to sit on the side of the stage to join me following Votto.
I could tell Joey was very uncomfortable and asked if he was ok. He said, "I don't feel right going first, before my boss." I'll never forget that.

Why resent a college athlete being given NIL money by donors/businesses? The money is not coming from the school.

I get that Vonn Bell and Jessie Bates were valuable, productive, veterans. But I don't get the overall drop off of this defense. It's startling.

I'm a big Matt Miazga fan. His behavior was disappointing. However, suspensions should be enforced in the regular season, not the MLS semi-finals.

I watched Love Connection in high school and loved Chuck Woolery's trademark "We'll be back in two and two" hand signal.

Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow is 30 years old and tossed a CAREER HIGH 120 innings last season. He will make $25M this season before hitting free agency.
I can't imagine the Reds would give something up for one year of an injury prone player and take on that kind of money.

Former Bengals assistant Kyle Caskey spent a season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He told me he lived a mile from the stadium and would ride a Bird scooter to home games. A current Bengals assistant told me he walked home from the Rams MNF game with his family after traffic was bad getting out of Paycor/downtown.

Chuck Martin has done a heck of a job with the Miami Redhawks this season. 10-2. Lost his QB midseason. 6 road wins, tied for most in CFB. Dang.

We started watching Six Feet Under years ago and then bailed. Is it worth giving a second chance?

If Nebraska coach Matt Rhule is correct, and good QBs are going for $1-2M in the transfer portal, good luck to Cincy Reigns, UC's NIL partner.

Apple TV's eight episode 'Fatal Attraction' is pretty good. I hope there is a Season 2 to clean some things up, but it's captivating.

Do you worry more about hits allowed by a pitcher or runs allowed by a pitcher? Apply that to the Bengals defense holding the Steelers offense to their season average of 16 points. Again, the bigger issue is an NFL team mustering just 10 points.

If OSU's goal is to beat Michigan, win the Big 10 and win national titles, Ryan Day has accomplished none for three consecutive seasons. So, what does winning all the other games mean?

I can't sleep at night with socks on.

The Bengals will play back-to-back Saturday regular season games (Dec. 16 vs Vikings, Dec. 23 vs Steelers). Has that ever happened before?

UC basketball is an intriguing team. But the measuring stick is coming in the Big 12.

I was reminded this week on the 52nd anniversary, that Brian's Song was an ABC Movie of the Week and not on the big screen.
