Reds 5 Marlins 2

Brandon Williamson tossed 6.2 innings of outstanding one run baseball and the Reds offense flashed signs of getting back to the havoc created during winning times as they snapped a six game losing streak Monday night at GABP, 5-2 over the Marlins

The Reds stole three bases, scored two runs on a two out triple, another run on a sacrifice fly and two runs compliments of the long ball (Joey Votto/CES).

Williamson: 6.2 IN, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 9 K (career high), HR. 89 pitches/55 strikes. He quickly shook off a 1st inning homer (GABP cheapie) and started dealing. You could see the confidence grow with each pitch. He used just 63 pitches through the first five innings. He struck out the side in the 6th. He allowed back to back singles to open the 7th, got a ground out and Steer Steer went into the netting in foul territory at 3B and made a heck of a snag. Williamson was done with runners on 2nd and 3rd, 1 out. His 6.2 innings tied a career high.

Bullpen: Luca Sims inherited 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs in 7th and got a strikeout. Ian Gibaut 1.0 IN, HR. Diaz, 1.0 IN. Save No. 33, tied for ML lead. He walked back to back batters to start 9th. But struck out Jesus Sanchez, got ML leading hitter Luis Arraez to hit into a game-ending DP. He was pitching for the first time since his Friday night implosion and just the second time since July 31.

Just like they use to:
-The Reds plated two runs in the 3rd with two walks, a stolen base and a two-out, two-run double. Benson walked with one out in the 3rd and stole 2nd. Fairchild struck out. De La Cruz walked with two outs. But Friedl lined a two-out, two-run triple to give the Reds a 2-1 lead.
-Friedl singled, stole 2nd, went to 3rd on the throwing error and scored on a Spencer Steer sacrifice fly.

HR machine: Votto's last four hits have been homers. He has 13 in 39 games. Career No. 355 ties Greg Vaughn for 91st all-time.

Frield's night: 2 H, 2B, 2 RBI, SB, R.

Newman: H, SB, HBP. He got the start at 2B with McLain getting a night off.

Stolen bases: Benson, Newman, Frield. They entered the night with just 15 in 23 games since the All-Star break.

Elly's night: 0-3...K, BB, GO to pitcher, FO CF. In his 1st AB....swung and missed a fastball (strike), took a fastball strike and then struck out on a slider. If he's not doing something with fastballs....then we've got a problem.

E-Reds: Elly booted a ball, his 3rd error over the last week and the 12th for the team since last Tuesday.

How the Reds scored:
3rd: Friedl 2-out, 2-run 3B, 2-1 Reds
4tth: CES HR (2), 3-1
4th: Votto HR (13), 4-1
5th: Sac fly Steer, 5-1
