Reds: My reaction to the trade

Notes and reaction to Sam Moll deal.

The Reds acquired from the Athletics 31-year old LHP Sam Moll (Mole) and international cap space for minor league pitcher Joe Boyle.

Big takeaway: David Bell gets a 2nd LH arm to pair with Alex Young in the bullpen. The Reds have team control of Moll through 2027. They didn't have to give up a Top 30 prospect from the system. Boyle is just 23 years old and has a big time arm. But he's had big time control issues for a long. He might figure it out. But the Reds trade that possibility for a ML caliber LH reliever to use in a pennant chase.

Moll this season: 0-3 4.54, 1 save in 44 appearances.

37.2 IN, 34 H, 19 BB, 46 K.

He's allowed 1 HR to 170 batters faced this season.

LHB are hitting .197 vs Moll this year/.557 OPS.

Gets ground balls 53% time…ML average 43%

He allowed 5 R in his May 14 appearance.

His ERA is 3.38 in his other 44 appearances.

His FIP of 3.25 vs ERA of 4.54 indicates he's pitched to some tough luck this season.

Last season: 2.91 in 53 appearances.

Contract: $760K this year.

Arbitration eligible 2025. Free agent 2028.
