Reds beat LA, move within a half game of 1st place

The Reds jumped on the Dodgers early with a three run 1st inning runs and fended them off late with big outs by the bullpen to win 6-5 Friday night.

The win, coupled with a Brewers loss to the Braves, moved the Reds to within a half game of 1st place in the NL Central.

Cycle it: Jake Fraley's two-run homer was part of a 1st inning cycle for the Reds. Elly De La Cruz tripled to start the game and scored on a TJ Friedl groundout. Mat McLain doubled and scored on the Fraley homer. Jonathan India singled.

Implosion: The Reds led 6-2 in the 7th before Ian Gibaut and Lucas Sims combined to allow three runs to make it 6-5.

To the rescue: Leading 6-5 with the bases loaded and two outs in the 7th, David Bell called on LHP Alex Young to put out the fire by retiring LHB Max Muncy. Young also got the first two outs of the 8th.

4-out save: Alexis Diaz came out with the tying run on 2nd in the 8th, retired Mookie Betts, and recorded the final four outs for his 31st save.

Dub: Brandon Williamson 5.2 IN, 2 R....inducing three DP. He has a 2.45 ERA over his last five starts.
