Things that popped into my head this week

Kelly and I are headed to Savannah, GA and then Asheville, NC to celebrate our 25th anniversary. I can't imagine my life without her.

I collected beer cans as a kid. I lined them on the steel beams along the ceiling in the basement.

20 years ago this week a stranger saved our son's life. Casey, diagnosed with leukemia, received a bone marrow transplant at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. The done had been in the bone marrow registry for over a decade and never been contacted. Please consider signing up for the registry at Be The Match.

Can the Reds finish with a winning record? That would be an improvement of at least 20 wins from last season and the third winning season in the last four under David Bell.

Ever play the cow game on vacation when you were a kid? I counted cows on my side of the road, my sister got the other side. The first of us to accumulate a specified number of cows won. But if you passed a cemetery you lost all your cows and had to start over.

The Reds can't/won't continue with three catchers much longer. I'd give Curt Casali a pay bump and ask him to become Crash Davis (Bull Durham).
I'd make him a roving minor league player. He could catch and be around pitching prospects like Connor Phillips, Lyon Richardson, Chase Petty, Christian Roa, etc.

Kelly and I got married in Lake Tahoe at Jake's on the Lake. Bob Trumpy repeatedly asked if it was a biker bar. It was not.

The season finale of ABC's 'The Rookie' was one of the most intense 60 minutes of a network TV show I've watched in a long time. Kelly says since the hospital shooter episode of Grey's Anatomy (May 2010).

FC Cincinnati was down six players, mostly starters, and still dominated Toronto Wednesday night. Six. Won 3-0.

Remember when people use to complain about the Reds inability to develop players? Jonathan India won rookie of year in 2020, while Tyler Stephenson and Vladimir Gutierrez got votes. Last year, Nick Lodolo and Alexis Diaz got votes. This year, Matt McLain, Elly De La Cruz and Spencer Steer will get votes.

I wrote a check this week. I can't remember the last time that happened. I had to sign my name. Can't remember the last time that happened.

I came across 'A Few Good Men' while channel flipping the other night. Stopped and watched for the gazillionth time. What a movie. What a cast: Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, Kevin Bacon, Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Pollack. Seriously?

FC Cincinnati's Pat Noonan is on my list of favorite coaches I've every interviewed. Personable. Not cliches. Honest. Fun.

Give Nick Krall and ownership credit. They could have forced Wil Myers back onto this roster to see if a healthy version could help the Reds/draw trade interest. But instead of sending someone to Triple-A to create a spot, they designated Myers for assignment and eat the $4M remaining on his deal.

Casey Kasem's original American Top 40 countdowns from the '70s and '80s was a must listen each week. It's pretty cool catching replays now on SiriusXM. Remember, "Here's your long distance dedication..."?

Dusty Baker sat Jose Altuve Sunday after his four hit game vs Reds last Saturday. Why? Dusty to MLB.com: "I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do to have him for the long run. It’s a tough decision, but it’s my decision. I want him to stay fresh.”

How about Carly Pearce and Chris Stapleton teaming up for 'We Don't Fight Anymore'?

The easiest way to figure out how much someone knows about baseball is to ask them about Joey Votto.

I met Kelly when I was at CLTV in Chicago and she was an intern. I called and hung up three times before getting up the courage to ask her out.

If we always agreed: 1. Kelly would worry about both us. 2. It would be boring. 3. I'd never get to show my work.

I get a kick out of the people that say, 'well, if the Reds played in the ________division they'd be _____ games out." You know what? They don't. And they aren't.

How much credit does David Bell deserve? My answer: MORE. Because I think he gets little to none from most fans.

My Facebook presence will be limited next week, but I'll try to post Reds results and setup conversation.

I believe I'll have a 40th edition of this to post next week...it might not be until Saturday.

Don't worry about things you don't care about
