Eagles 14 Reds 3
The Phillies pounded out 23 hits on the day, including bombarding starter Luis Cessa for 9 runs in the first inning and 11 runs over his three innings, in beating the Reds 14-3 Sunday at GABP.
The Reds should offer a free ticket to another game to every fan leaving GABP Sunday. Absolute disgrace.
One and done: Luis Cessa’s 1st inning 8 H, 2 BB, HR, WP, 9 ER…..10 baserunners, 3 outs recorded. 39 pitches/23 strikes. Bryson Stott opened the game with a solo home run, extending his 16-game hitting streak.
Taking one for the team: Cessa went back out for the 2nd, 3rd and into the 4th inning. Final line: 3+ IN, 14 H, 11 R, 3 BB, 0 K 88 pitche/54 strikes. ERA now: 13.50.
One ML pitcher allowing 17 ML hitters to reach base in 3.0 innings of work really is something else.
Per ESPN: The last Reds pitcher to allow 11 ER was Jimmy Anderson vs Cardinals 6/26/03.
Moving pieces: 1B Jason Vosler took the mound in the 9th inning 1 IN, 3 H, 1 R. 3B Spencer Steer left the game after being shaken up while diving for a grounder. Curt Casali took over at 3B for the first time in his ML career and caught a pop up.
If only we’d known the Reds were starting the season with two SP that had no business whatsoever being in a ML rotation.
The O: Jake Fraley RBI 3B. Kevin Newman and Jonathan India each added SF. Senzel 2 H, BB, R 2B, 2 H Steer and Luke Maile, who picked up his first two career hits in a Reds uniform at GABP. Newman snapped an 0 for 12.
Bullpen: Fernando Cruz 2.0, R, 30 pitches….Reiver Sanmartin 2.0, R, 43 pitches, ….Derek Law 2.0, 0 R, 19 pitches.
That Louisville Bats Shuttle will be active. Hope Nick Krall called down in the 1st inning to have at least one fresh arm back at AAA. It will be needed for tomorrow.
