Phillies 3 Reds 2

Well, that was a kick in the groin. The Reds led 2-0 to the 9th and Alex Diaz threw up on himself, as the Reds lost 3-2.

Nick Lodolo was dynamite. Just filthy. A career high 12 K over 7 shutout innings……..3 H, 2 BB, 106 pitches/68 strikes. He struck out the side in the 1st inning. Josh Harrison swung and missed a breaking ball for strike three that hit him in the ankle. Big K of Kyle Schwarber with 2 on and 2 out in the 5th. Jake Fraley made a huge running catch with a man on in the 7th. His 12 strikeouts are the most by a Reds lefthander since Amir Garrett had 12 strikeouts on 4/19/17 vs Baltimore.

Bullpen: Alexis Diaz got the top of the order in the 8th having not pitched since Sunday. He struck out the side in a 13 pitch 8th inning. But he came undone in the 9th. He walked Nick Castellanos to lead off, threw a wild pitch and then allowed back to back singles to drive in a run. The whole situation looked too big for him. Ian Gibaut came on with 0 outs and runners on the corners. A sacrifice fly tied the game 2-2. A single won it.

Spencer Steer cranked a 438 foot homer to dead CF in the 1st inning.

Manufactured 8th inning Insurance: Walk Newman + sac bunt beat out for hit Friedl + line out Vosler/Newman advanced to 3rd + sac fly Fraley. 2-0 Reds. Who are these guys?

The Reds won a big replay challenge in the 3rd inning. It was determined Spencer Steer did get the tag on Cristian Pache sliding into 3rd base and Bryson Scott didn’t cross home plate before the 3rd out was recorded. No run.

Tyler Stephenson had a two hit day, extending his career high hit streak to seven straight games.

Bunt! TJ Friedl put down two bunts for hits. His second game when he beat a throw on a sacrifice attempt . Bunting has been out of the game for so long that teams clearly have no idea how to handle them defensively, upon their return.

SB/DP: Friedl was doubled up when he was off and running on a Fraley line out to LF.

Not exactly a Tom Emanski special: Errors by Lodolo and Steer. Passed ball Casali.
