19th edition of My Random Thoughts:
Things that popped into my head this week, from sports, TV, music, food, life......
Man, a lot of people had ordered the moving vans for Joe Mixon within a few minutes of the initial report Thursday night.
I was looking back at my old show sheets from the early to mid 2000's. What happened to CBB interest around here? I wonder how many people were fans of Bob Huggins, more than UC?
While working at WMVP in Chicago, I was part of a store grand opening/autograph signing with Norm Van Lier and Gale Sayers. Talk about a 'one of these things is not like the other' moments. I'll never forget the lady that looked at me as I sat between Norm and Gale at the table and politely said to me 'now, who are you?"
I think Fox NFL analyst Greg Olsen is really good. Smart. Articulate. He explains things in a simple way, without being goofy.
MPH in Montgomery might just have the best trio of appetizer-pizza-beer of our brewery visits. Superb brick oven pizza with fresh ingredients, a killer smoked bourbon barrel salsa and a strong variety of beers.
Nice gut-check OT win by Xavier over Providence on the heels of losing at Creighton and then losing Zach Freemantle for a month.
Reds? 55 days to Opening Day. That's all I've got.
The first year Kelly and I were married she stayed in Chicago and I drove 624 miles round trip from Cincinnati just about every weekend to see her. I wasn't confident enough in the status of the station I was at (WBOB) to ask her to leave her job at SportsChannel Chicago.
Do you trust Jackson Carman enough to count on him as the Bengals starting LT in 2023?
Wes Miller opening his Tulsa postgame by recognizing Chad Brendel's wife, Kelly, and her battle with cancer was really classy.
The aloof, I'm so cool, listen to the important stuff I have to say approach of Aaron Rodgers just really grates at me.
Pamela Anderson has a new documentary on Netflix, 'Pamela, a love story.' It is produced by her son, Brandon, and really well done. She is a fascinating combination of an exhibitionist and sex symbol that's also shy, kind, naive. It was funny, revealing and often sad. She once sent me a signed wall poster of her standing in the shower with the curtain strategically wrapped around her for my 30th birthday.
Growing up, I once called Bob Trumpy on Sports Talk when my family was vacationing on Cape Cod.
If the main characteristics needed from a Bengals RB in this offense are pass catching and pass protection, then the answers seems pretty clear in the debate about Joe Mixon's future.
UC basketball is showing signs I like. But how about this stat from Justin Williams (The Athletic:) UC's last Quad 1 win was November of 2021 vs Illinois in the Hall of Fame classic. They are 0-12 vs Quad 1 opponents since.
NFL contracts//guaranteed money/cap hits, makes it tough to understand and discuss in the sports talk radio forum.
Watching reruns of Gilligan's Island the other night, I was reminded just how dumb that show was. But I loved it at the time!
You know what would bring down service charges for Ticketmaster and other outlets? If people stopped paying those charges.
I was 17-0 with the Bengals and beat Tampa Bay in the Super Bowl in my return to Madden (PlayStation 4) after a couple of decades away. Of course I was playing on rookie mode. Triangle, square, circle, X......so many things to remember!
Departing: Jessie Bates, Germaine Pratt, Hayden Hurst, Eli Apple.......and?
After Sunday, I question my strength to watch the Super Bowl. But I will.
Three months ago we upgraded our altafiber internet to 750Mbps and switched to Fioptics+ TV. We could not be happier. I can't believe we waited so long to move on from Direct TV. Much cheaper. Better channel options. Outstanding customer service.
Don't worry about things you don't care about. This week's example would be the Pro Bowl Games.
