23 Random Thoughts:

Random Thoughts: Thoughts I jot down when they pop into my head.

It's really frustrating trying to buy tickets online, finding a decent price, getting ready to checkout, and then seeing the service charge. I found two tickets for Pacers vs Heat (February 4) on SeatGeek. Tickets were $62 each. Good seats. Service charge: $24.52 a ticket. Why would anyone pay that?

We currently have five different flavored coffee creamers in the fridge. We are kind of obsessed.

The Reds are asking for three things I think fans have run out of: Time, patience and understanding.

We have season tickets for UC football. I love Nippert. But I sat on a backless bleacher seat for 3.5 hours, with terrible Wifi, a useless PA system, and limited replays, scores and highlights this past Saturday. A fan next to me said stood in line nearly 20-minutes for the restrooms. More and more I make the case for the at-home experience. PS......UC has taken away the seat back/cushions and now are up charging for those (I believe $100 per season ticket).

The lack of a salary cap and being in the Cleveland market didn't stop the Guardians from winning 92 games, a division and a playoff series.

What a cool story FC Cincinnati is. They won four of 34 matches last season. They had been the worst team in MLS three consecutive season.
Now, they are playoff bound and a club I would not want to face.

We've started watching "Welcome to Wrexham" on FX. What a story. Actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds purchased and are learning to run Wrexham, the third oldest professional football club in the world. The goal is to return the fifth tier Red Dragons to the English Premier League level and bring hope to the downtrodden town.

What an amazing story UC RB Charles McClelland is. Two ACL tears. He rushed for 179 yards on 21 carries, with two TDs in the South Florida win. Dude runs hard. I mean hard.

Did you know Mt. St. Joseph football is 5-0? Winton Woods product Cornell Beachem Jr. plays RB, LB, returns kicks.....and......is the NCAA Division III national champion wrestler at 174 pounds. QB Josh Taylor is from Western Brown H.S. He threw 5 TD's last week, ran for a score and caught a score.

With the new Apple TV/MLS deal, I'm not sure what the future holds for the FC Cincinnati broadcast team of Tommy Gelehrter, Kevin McCloskey and Alex Stec. But they do a hell of a job. They have done 201 broadcasts. I've listened on my headphones going back to day one at Nippert Stadium.

This that annoy me: 1. The "who cares" comment on Facebook......if you don't care why would you comment? ......2. People that use the word "right" when making a statement.

Fans keep demanding that Bob and Phil talk. OK. What are they going to say? There is nothing they will say, short of "we are selling the team", that would makes fans happy.

We've added another new show: East New York. CBS. Cop show. I'd watch anything Jimmy Smits is in. Amanda Warren is strong as Deputy Inspector.

The worst: waking up inside the 30 minute range of your alarm being set to go off.

Anyone seen Tyler Boyd?

We've added a panini maker and air fryer in the last 18 months. Game. Changers.

Bummed that I had more FC Cincinnati guests this week (Pat Noonan/Nick Hagglund) than FC Callers callers this week (0).

I just can't get better at two thumb texting.

I really enjoyed our Fishing Scandal discussion this week. It was different than our normal topics and a nice change of pace. Please email me if you ever had a topic or guest idea: lance@lancecmalister.com.

As I grow older I appreciate a good, quick nap more and more.

A couple of life mottos: 1. Don't sweat the small stuff....life is too short.....2. Don't worry about stuff you don't care about.
