Pirates 4 Reds 1

The pursuit of 100: The Reds have dropped six straight to the Pirates and fall to 60-95. They have lost 15 of their last 19 and must go at least 3-4 the rest of the way to avoid 100 losses.

Perspective: The Reds and Pirates entered the night with a combined 117 wins. The Dodgers entered with 106 wins.

Short on offense: The Reds have scored fewer than five runs in 17 consecutive games, most since 17 in September of 2018.
(Per Bally Sports Ohio).

Hunter Greene: 6 IN, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 10 K, 4 BB, 97 pitches/62 strikes. Moment of the game. 1-1 in the 5th, he loaded the bases with 0 outs but got back-to-back K's and then Kyle Farmer made a diving stop on a grounder at 3rd base. The final out of the 6th inning was a strikeout at 100mph on his 98th pitch of the night. He pounded his chest as he walked off the mound. He threw 10 changeups on the night and seems to be added that more and more. Last three starts since coming off IL: 17 IN, 10 H, 2 ER, 6 BB, 29 K, ERA of 1.06. Per Pitch FX, the 10 changeups were the most he's thrown since his first start of the season, 13 vs Braves. The Reds are 5-18 in his 23 starts.

Trouble: Buck Farmer took over in the 7th inning and promptly found trouble. He loaded the bases and then surrendered a bases-clearing double to Miguel Andujar to get the Pirates a 4-1 lead.

Good for him: Michael Siani collected his first ML hit with a 2nd inning single. He'd been 0 for 6 since his promotion. He added another single in his 2nd AB.
He banged his head on the ground on an all-out dive for a fly ball he could not haul in and left the game in the 8th inning.

Whiffffffffff: Jose Barrero 0 for 4 with 3 K.....that's 0 for his last 15 and 2 for his last 31.....Overall: 70 K in 148 AB this season (47.2).....with .149 BA.

Blah, blah, blah: How are those Aristides Aquino adjustments going? 0 for 4, 2 K and now 3 for his last 36. Again, I long for the days when the Reds have assembled enough ML and minor league talent that they don't have to waste time on Aquino.

Thrice is nice: Kyle Farmer, mired in a 3 for 37 skid, singled twice and drew a walk.

Bulls-eye: Three batters were hit (2 Reds, 1 Pirate) in the first three innings.

Iron Glove: What has happened to Jonathan India on defense? He made his 10th error in his 83rd game. He made 15 in 148 games last season.

Loaded up: The two teams combined to load the bases three times.
