Mets 5 Reds 1

Mets starter Chris Bassitt dance into and out of trouble all night in scattering eight hits but allowing just one run over eight innings as the Mets beat the Reds
5-1 Monday night. Reds starter Justin Dunn found trouble right off the bat and it cost him. He hit the first batter of the game and served up a homer to the second batter and that was all Bassitt needed. The Reds stranded 11 runners, including two in the 4th, three in the 6th, two in the 7th and two in the 9th.
They were 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position.

The Mets led 3-1 in the 8th inning when Tyler Naquin doubled the lead with a two-out, two run triple to make it 5-1.

Dunn debut: Justin Dunn 4.2 IN, 5 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 K HR. 70 pitches/44 strikes. It was 2-0 two batters into the game after he hit leadoff batter Brandon Nimmo and then was taken yard by Starling Marte. He was exactly fooling anyone, but he battled. He was better than in his 8 minor league starts this season: 6.75, 28 IN, 34 H, 17 BB.

Bullpen: Ian Gibaut stranded a runner at 3rd base in relief of Dunn to end the 5th inning and took care of the 6th. His ERA dips to 3.60.
Luis Cessa 1.0, 0 R. Ryan Hendrix 1.0, BB, HBP, 2 R.

The lone one: The Reds only run scored on a Joey Votto fielder's choice groundout that scored Nick Senzel in the 4th inning.

Had a shot: Trailing 3-1 in the 6th, the Reds loaded the bases with two outs with the ball leaving the infield (Senzel infield 1B, Votto HBP, Jake Fraley infield 1B). But Aristides Aquino hit a broken bat soft liner to 2nd base to end the inning.

Had another shot: The Reds put runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs in the 7th after Almora Jr single and Senzel reached on catcher's interference.
It's the eighth time this season Senzel has reached on catcher's interference for the and 14th time in his career. But Reynolds popped up to right field.

One more shot: Fraley singled to bring Aquino to the plate as the tying run in the 8th inning, but he struck out.

Switcheroo: Mike Moustakas (left calf) and Jonathan India (right hamstring) both left the game after batting in the top of the 4th inning. Senzel moved from CF to play 3B....his first appearance in the infield this season. Matt Reynolds came off the bench to play 3B. Albert Almora Jr. took over in CF. Prior to the game, Kyle Farmer was scratched from the lineup with a stiff neck, replaced by Donovan Solano.

Nice: Jose Barrero had a two hit night. He snapped a string of six consecutive K's by slapping a two-strike single the other way through the right side for a single. He added a stolen base on a nifty slide around the tag of Francisco Lindor.

Offese: Fraley two hits....now 8 for 17 since coming off the IL. Senzel had a hit a walk and a run.

Robbed! Almora Jr. leaped above the wall in CF to take a two-run homer away from Lindor in the 5th inning.
