Reds: We have a trade! Naquin and Diehl to Mets for prospects

CINCINNATI - Cincinnati Reds Vice President, General Manager Nick Krall today announced the acquisitions of minor leaguers RHP Jose Acuna and CF Hector Rodriguez from the New York Mets for OF Tyler Naquin and LHP Phillip Diehl.

           Acuna, 19, originally was signed by the Mets as an undrafted free agent out of Venezuela in July 2019. In his minor league career beginning in 2021, Acuna went 4-0 with a 2.88 ERA in 8 starts and 4 relief appearances in the Florida Complex League and Florida State League (40.2ip, 25h, 15bb, 55k, 0.98whip, .175baa). He will report to Class A Daytona.

           Rodriguez, 18, was signed by the Mets as an undrafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic in January 2021. In 234 career minor league appearances in the Florida Complex League and Florida State League he hit .321 with 6hr, 31rbi and 18 stolen bases with a .877 OPS. Rodriguez will report to the Arizona Complex League Reds.

           Naquin, 31, this season for the Reds hit .246 in 56 appearances. He joined the Reds in February 2021, when he was signed to a minor league contract and will be a free agent following this season.

           Diehl, 28, this season made 5 relief appearances for the Reds and went 2-1 with a 4.24 ERA in 25 relief appearances for the Reds' Class AAA affiliate in Louisville.
