Brewers 10 Reds 5
The Reds are 3-22 and have lost 20 of their last 21 games. We are 25 games into the season and they'd already had an 11 game losing streak and are working on a nine game skid. That's also 13 straight losses on the road, most by a Reds team since losing 19 in 1933. They are now 14.5 games back of first place Milwaukee.
Striking first: The Reds led the game 3-0 after they batted in the 1st inning. Colin Moran's two run single highlighted a four hit/three run inning.
Batting practice: The Brewers clobbered six home runs for the game and 11 in the three game series.
Tagged: Hunter Greene was beaten and battered....2.2 IN, 9 H, 8 R, 1 BB, 7 K, 5 HR...76 pitches/46 strikes. He gave up three runs in the 1st, three in the 2nd and two in the 3rd. Luis Urias and Christian Yelich hit back-to-back homers to start a 31 pitch the 1st inning. It only got worse. He served up a homer in the second (Wily Adames) and two more in the third (Tyrone Taylor/Keston Hiura). 8 of the 9 hits allowed were extra-base hits (5 HR/3 2B). He hit 100 mph once (100.9)....with 9 other pitches at 99 mph. The Brewers hit seven balls off the bat at over 105 mph. His 10 HR allowed (20.2 IN) leads MLB... (2nd Nathan Eovaldi/Elieser Hernandez, 7)
Digging out: The Reds have been outscored 90-27 in the first four innings this season: Reds runs in first four inning 10-3-8-6...Opponents 23-14-25-28.
Offense: 3 runs, 9 hits, 1 walk, 11 Ks.
Pop-up: Not sure how we'd expect the Reds to win games when they have clearly proven they can't catch pop ups....Mike Moustakas and Tyler Stephenson looked at each other let one drop near the on-deck circle. A pop up at the mound dropped untouched over the weekend.
Chipping away: Tyler Stephenson homered in the 4th inning (No. 3) and added another run to make 8-5 with one outs in the 5th inning....but that was it.
Stephenson: 2 hits, 1B, HR, 2 RBI, SB. Wonder who the last Reds catcher was to homer and steal a base in the same game.
Bullpen: Art Warren served up a 2-run homer to Adames in the 8th..his ERA climbs to 10.29. But Cesa 1.1, Santillan 1.0, Diehl 1.0 and Strickland 1.0 combined for 4.1 scoreless innings.
New guy: Albert Almora Jr lined a single the other way for his first ML hit since August 5 of last year with the Mets.
As the rotation turns: The Reds last four starts have produced Reiver Sanmartin: 0.2 IN, 6 R, Tyler Mahle: 3.1 IN, 4 R, Vladimir Gutierrez: 4.1 IN, 7 R, Hunter Greene: 2.2 IN, 8 R. Total: 11 IN, 27 H, 25 R, 11 BB, 9 HR.....ERA 20.45.
