Reds: Eight ain't great

Padres 6 Reds 2

Eight ain't great. The Reds lost to the Padres 6-2 Tuesday night, their eighth consecutive loss, to fall to 2-10 on the season.

For the second consecutive night the Reds struck first and once again it was Tommy Pham homering in the first inning.

But for the second consecutive night the Padres answered and once again it was Manny Machado hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.
The Padres put three runs on the board in the inning and that was ball game.

The biggest concern is Tyler Stephenson. He took a cheap shot (video above) from Luke Voit of the Padres on a collision at home plate in the bottom of the first inning. The replay throw from Kyle Farmer took Stephenson up the line into Voit, but Voit appeared to push Stephenson's head down upon impact. Stephenson left the game and has been placed in concussion protocol. He will be out for a minimum of seven days. Reds players were not happy with Voit's play. Keep an eye on today's game. Taxi squad catcher Mark Kolozsvary will replace Stephenson on the roster. He had been at Double-A Chattanooga and has not appeared in a ML game. Or, they could promote recently signed ML veteran Sandy Leon from Louisville.

The Reds lost the use of the DH when Stephenson departed and DH Aramis Garcia had to go behind the plate.

Revier Sanmartin: 5.1 IN, 8 H, 5 R. He went 0 for 2 at the plate, without the DH.

Offense: 5 for 32 with 2 BB, 9 K.

Joey Votto singled to snap an 0 for 18.

Kyle Farmer had 2 of the Reds 5 hits and added an RBI (.317).
