Reds: Can't win 'em all

Braves 7 Reds 6

Can't win 'em all: The Reds miss a chance to start 2-0 for the first time since a 3-0 start in 2016

Digging a hole: The Reds fell behind 7-0 when the Braves jumped on Reiver Sanmartin for two runs in the 2nd inning and then piled on 5 more vs Sanmartin and Jeff Hoffman in the 3rd inning.

Rally time: The Reds chipped away to trail 7-3 headed to the 9th inning, then scored three runs vs ace closer Kenley Jansen to really make things interesting. Jake Fraley's first hit as a Red drove in Mike Moustakas and Kyle Farmer. The go-ahead run came to the plate, but Jonathan India flew out to end it.

They aren't the Pirates: Revier Sanmartin entered the game with two ML starts, both vs the Pirates 2-0 1.40. He struggled vs the Braves, throwing 58 pitches in 2.1 innings, allowing 5 runs and 5 walks. He clearly wasn't comfortable on a cold and blustery night in Atlanta. Remember, he's here because Luis Castillo and Mike Minor are on the IL.

Bullpen: The Reds pen had to cover 17 outs and allowed just 2 runs in the 5.2 innings.

Welcome to The Show: Daniel Duarte 1.0, 2 K, Alexis Diaz 1.0, 2 K made their ML debuts. Veteran Buck Farmer made his Reds debut and tossed a scoreless inning.

O: Reds scored 6 runs on 6 hits. Tyler Stephenson collected 2 hits. Joey Votto: H, BB, 2 R.

Senzel stellar: Nick Senzel made two really nice catches in CF and collected a double.

Old Man River: 38-year old Charlie Morton handcuffed the Reds, retiring the first 12 batters faced. 5.1 IN, 2 R.
