So close.............
I'll never forget May 12, 1984: (Boxscore)
Reds vs Cardinals at Riverfront Stadium
Reds pitcher Mario Soto lost a no-hitter with 2-strikes and 2-outs in the 9th when George Hendrick homered to tie the game 1-1.
I was mowing the grounds of Ashland Chemicals in Indianapolis (my dad was regional manager) and had stopped to listen to the final out.
I stood up on the riding mower to get better reception on my radio. What a crusher. I can close my eyes and still remember Marty's words......."The no-hitter is gone, the shutout is gone....and the game is tied"
The Reds did win the game in the bottom of the 9th on a Brad Gulden single vs Bruce Sutter to score Dave Concepcion.
