Cincinnati sports figures = national broadcasters

National TV

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is retiring and entering the broadcast booth.

ESPN reports that Witten has agreed to become an analyst on ESPN Monday Night Football.

Witten, who will turn 36 on Sunday, ends his career as one of the best tight ends in NFL history, totaling 1,152 catches for 12,448 yards and 68 touchdowns. He ranks 4th all-time in receptions, behind only Jerry Rice (1,549), Tony Gonzalez (1,325) and Larry Fitzgerald (1,234). The  11-time Pro Bowler holds several NFL records, including most receptions in a single season by a tight end (110 in 2012) and most catches in a game by a tight end (18 in 2012).

Former Cowboys will now fill three prominent roles as network TV analysts:

ESPN: Jason Whitten

Fox: Troy Aikman

CBS: Tony Romo

That list reminds me of a topic we did just over a year ago.
