2024 Cincinnati Open WTA Final: Pegula vs Sabalenka

After 9 days, tennis at the Cincinnati Open came down to 1 match to decide who would go home with the Rookwood trophy. The WTA finals at the Lindner Family Tennis Center Monday afternoon featured to heavy hitters. American Jessica Pegula took on Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.

Both players took tough paths to the finals.

Sabalenka beat Elisabetta Cocciaretto, Elina Svitolina, Liudmila Samsonova, and world number 1 Iga Swiatek.

Pegula beat Karonlina Muchova, Taylor Townsend, Leylah Fernandez, and Paula Badosa.

Sabalenka is coming off a successful start to the fall hard court season, while Pegula has had a rough 2024 until the National Bank Open last week (which she won).

From the start Sabalenka looked like the fresher of the 2 players going up 2 breaks and closing out the set in under 45 minutes. Pegula would try to mount a comeback in the 2nd set, but Sabalenka would prove to be too much, and would go on to win her 6th WTA Masters 1000 tournament of her career, and her 2nd singles title this year (Australian Open).

Aryna Sabalenka defeats Jessica Pegula 6-3, 7-5. Total match time 1 hour 14 minutes.

With that the WTA tour moves on to the Tennis in the Land Powered by Rocket Mortgage 250 in Cleveland, Ohio, and the Abierto GNP Seguros 500 in Monterrey, Mexico.

Sabalenka and Pegula like many others will probably opt out of those tournaments and head for New York for the US Open, which begins play this weekend.

Once again, Congratulations to the 2024 Cincinnati Open Women's Singles Champion Aryna Sabalenka!
