The women at the 2024 Cincinnati Open are garunteed a first time champion. The first semifinal match on Saturday, to decide who would play for that title, featured world number 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland, facing off against world number 3 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.
Sabalenka started the match strong going up 2 quick breaks, before weathering a short comeback attempt by Swiatek. The world number 1's rally would come up short as Sabalenka would regain control and take the first set. The match was beset throughout by multiple short rain delays that never really stopped by, but was enough to cut off any momentum Swiatek could get going.
Moving into the 2nd set Sabalenka would take complete control again getting a couple of breaks early and cruising from there to a birth in the 2024 Cincinnati Open Championship match.
Aryna Sabalenka defeats Iga Swiatek 6-3, 6-3
Sabalenka will play the winner of the Jessica Pegula (USA) vs Paula Badosa (ESP) match taking place immediately following this match.
