The trend of 3 set matches continued Saturday in quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open. Germany's Sascha Zverev took on American Ben Shelton to close out the day session.
Shelton would go up a break early and not look back cruising to a 1st set win. However, the former Cincinnati Open champion Zverev would not go out quietly. Battling it out in the second, the two players would finish in a tiebreaker going to the German. In the final decisive set, Shelton would find himself up 5-4 with a chance to punch his ticket to the semifinal, but Zverev would win the next 3 games sending the American up to New York early.
Alexander 'Sascha' Zverev defeats Ben Shelton 3-6, 7-6(3), 7-5.
Zverev moves on to play world number 1 Jannik Sinner in the semifinal on Sunday.
