2024 Cincinnati Open Quarterfinals: Pegula vs Fernandez

Grandstand got to see a three set classic in the WTA side of the Cincinnati Open quarterfinals on Saturday. American Jessica Pegula fresh off her win in Toronto at the National Bank Open took on former US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez of Canada. In probably the closest match of the day, both player combined to go 13/30 break points and played almost the maximum amount of games you can in a 3 set match (38/39).

Both players at points would take leads only to see their opponent comeback. Pegula would take the 1st set, in the only set not to go to a tiebreaker. Fernandez would come back and control the tiebreaker in the 2nd set. The seesaw battle wrapped up in the 3rd set in another tiebreaker, this time with the American running away early before clinching her spot in Sunday's semifinal.

Jessica Pegula defeats Leylah Fernandez 7-5, 6(1)-7,7-6(3)

Pegula will play in the semifinal on Sunday against the winner of the Anatasia Pavlyuchenkova vs Paula Badosa match.
