Addressing the International Air Transport Association (IATA) conference in Dubai on Sunday, June 2, Sir Tim Clark, the president of Emirates, leveled criticism at Boeing for "ruthlessly pursuing cost cuts," which he claimed disrupted its supply chain and led to safety issues.
Sir Tim Clark pointed out that the crisis engulfing Boeing had been unfolding for over a decade. He contended that the roots of Boeing's issues could be traced back 10 to 15 years, to a time when the company shifted its focus from engineering excellence to profit maximization.
Clark underscored that Boeing's stringent cost-cutting strategies, which included outsourcing and pressuring suppliers to slash costs, precipitated substantial quality concerns. He referenced an incident in January with a defective door panel on a 737 Max aircraft as a direct result of these cost-reduction tactics.
