Kia is recalling over 460,000 Telluride SUVs because they could catch on fire while parked. The recall covers 462,869 vehicles from the model years 2020 through 2024.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that the power seat slide knob on the front power seat motor could get stuck and cause the motor to overheat, resulting in the risk of a fire while parked or driving.
The automaker warned drivers to park outside and away from structures until the issue has been resolved. Owners can take their vehicle to a dealership where technicians will install a bracket for the power seat switch back covers and replace the seat slide knobs free of charge.
Kia has received one report of an under-seat fire and six reports that the seat tilt motor had melted. There were no reports of injuries or crashes due to the issue. Kia will begin mailing owners of affected vehicles starting on July 30. Owners can reach out to Kia customer service sooner by calling 1-800-333-4542.
You can check to see if your car is under recall by going to nhtsa.gov/recalls and entering your 17-digit vehicle identification number.
