Honda is recalling 564,000 2007-2011 CR-Vs in cold weather states. The car company said that road salt can cause the vehicle's frame to rust. Over time that could result in the rear trailing arm, which connects the rear axle to the chassis, detaching.

Honda said that the recall applies to SUVs registered or sold in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Washington, D.C.

The automaker has received 61 complaints about the issue, but there have been no reports of injuries.

Owners can bring their CR-Vs to a dealership where technicians will inspect the trailing arm and frame. If possible, they will install a support brace or repair the rear frame. If the damage is too severe, Honda may offer to buy the vehicle back.

Honda will begin notifying owners by letter starting on May 8.

You can check to see if your car is subject to a recall by going to nhtsa.gov/recalls and entering your 17-digit vehicle identification number.
