9 Shot in Over-the-Rhine

( Over-the-Rhine ) - Cincinnati Police are investigating after gunfire around 1:30 Sunday morning injured nine people.

No one has died, and none of the injuries have been described as critical. Most of the injuries to the nine victims happened in their lower extremities

Cincinnati Police Lt Colonel Mike John says all of the victims were injured on Main St near 13th, close to Mr Pitiful's.

No one is in custody, and investigators believe there may have been two people shooting at each other.

In a noon news conference, city leaders praised the police response. They specifically singled out Officer Joe Shook, one of two uniformed police working the area when the shooting occurred. He's being credited with saving lives for both running after a suspect and then working to help the wounded. Police say Officer Shook fired one round at that suspect, but it's unclear if the suspect was struck.

Both the mayor and Lt Col John expressed bewilderment and frustration that the shooting happened even though police were nearby.

By 9am, the only sign that there was something wrong was a city worker power-washing the sidewalk.

Many people ran from the scene, and police believe it's possible some of those who fled could have more information. If you can help police, call CrimeStoppers at 513-352-3040 or text CINTIP plus your message to CRIMES.
