ICU Beds in TriState Over Capacity

ICU's across the TriState are now over capacity. The latest numbers show more than 150 people receiving intensive care which puts the 14 local hospitals at what they consider their maximum.

Dr Stephen Feagins is the chief clinical officer for Mercy Health and he says they will adapt and overcome. He tells 9 news they are prepared for a surge with more people coming together for holiday parties that were cancelled by COVID last year. Feagins says they have the ability to open up more units if need be and will get the staffing to accommodate everyone in need of intensive care. Hospitalizations are spiking again as well with nearly 600 people hospitalized for COVID that is more than during the summer spike and closing in on the levels reached last January before the vaccine was widely available.
