Woman Indicted in Overdose Death of Attorney

(Cincinnati, OH) - Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced the indictment of 26-year-old Amanda Witt in the overdose death of her friend and former attorney, Richard Vanderyt.

Vanderyt died on March 16, 2020.

Witt is under indictment on one count of involuntary manslaughter, one count of corrupting another with drugs, and one count of tampering with evidence . If convicted of all charges, she faces in excess of 20 years in prison, according to Deters.

Witt allegedly supplied drugs to Vanderyt. Deters says the investigation revealed that Mr. Vanderyt requested cocaine from Witt but what he got was fentanyl.

Deters said "drugs affect our entire community. Rich Vanderyt was a respected member of the Cincinnati Bar and his death is a loss to our community. Sadly, we are seeing more cases where people think they are ingesting one substance when in reality it is something much deadlier."
