The Ohio Department of Education is telling schools across the state that any graduation ceremonies must be held remotely. The state doesn't want gatherings in large stadiums even if they are properly spaced out or in parking lots where people come in their cars. The directive from the ODE says school leaders should conduct graduation ceremonies and other recognition events in a remote manner that honors each student in a safe and responsible way, prioritizing the health needs of students, their families and the community.
The state is also discouraging schools from putting off the recognition until later in the summer saying there is no guarantee that large gatherings will be permitted then and there is a risk of fewer students actually participating.
