(Columbus) - All Ohio K-12 schools will be closed for three weeks starting at the end of the day on March 16 to fight COVID-19 infection across the state.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine made the announcement Thursday afternoon during a press conference in connection to coronavirus. The governor is calling it an extended spring break that will be reviewed after the three-week period is up.

DeWine says from what the state can tell, unless a kid has a medical problem their risk of death from coronavirus is low, but kids are potential carriers.

He says he knows the sacrifice families will have to make, but this is being done to protect children.

Private, public and charter schools are included in this measure.
