Reds Opening Day Parade Canceled

( Cincinnati ) - That above message is what greets fans who log onto the Findlay Market Parade's website as of Wednesday evening.

This would have been the 101st running of the parade in the runup to Reds Opening Day.

As of right now, the game itself--scheduled for March 26--is still on.

This all comes as Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley declared a State of Emergency in response to the ongoing threat from the coronavirus. Cancellation of major events that draw large crowds is part of the strategy to curb the spread of the respiratory illness that has killed about 3-dozen people in the US so far.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced earlier on Wednesday that he would soon be issuing an order to curb large gatherings.

The parade cancellation also comes in the same hour that the NBA announced it is suspending the remainder of its season.
