Coronavirus Scare Closes a Cincinnati School

Here is a statement from Frances Russ, communications director for Cincinnati Public Schools on cancelling classes at the Academy of World Languages in Evanston.

On Tuesday, the Academy of World Languages (AWL) School was closed as a precautionary measure, after an AWL staff member notified school officials of a self-quarantine. The facilities staff is performing a deep cleaning of the building. We are also cleaning and sanitizing all buses that transport AWL students.

We continue to maintain communications with the City of Cincinnati Health Department. It is important to stress that there are no cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in our school district.

This morning, the city of Cincinnati is convening a meeting to prepare our city’s emergency response to coronavirus. Cincinnati Public Schools will be participating in this meeting. We will continue to follow the guidance of the Centers for Disease (CDC) as it monitors the spread of the virus. In the meantime, our priority will be preventing the introduction of coronavirus in our schools.
