Truck Driver Charged in Morning Interstate Crash

( Sycamore Twp ) - The Hamilton County Sheriff says the driver of a semi truck that overturned in a fiery crash that paralyzed traffic for hours has been charged.

Just after 5am, deputies say 37-year-old Donald Geis was driving his big rig south on I-71 in the construction zone near the Kenwood Road merge when he drove off the right side of the highway. The truck hit a pole and overturned onto its left side, hitting the guardrail and catching fire. The interstate was closed for over six hours.

Geis had to be extricated from the truck's cab. He's now been charged with failure to maintain reasonable control, though a statement from Sheriff Jim Neil says neither alcohol, nor drugs, nor speed were factors in the crash.
