Cincinnati Vice Mayor Smitherman Will Not Run for Mayor in 2021

In a statement Wednesday afternoon, Cincinnati Vice Mayor Christopher Smitherman announced he will not run for Mayor in 2021.

Smitherman was first elected to city council in 2003.

In 2007, he was elected president of the Cincinnati chapter of the NAACP where he served until 2014.

In 2011, Smitherman was again elected to Cincinnati City Council.

He was reelected in 2013 and in 2017.

During the 2013 term, Smitherman served as the Chairs of the Law & Public Safety Committee and the Economic Growth & Infrastructure Committee. 

Following the 2017 election, Mayor John Cranley appointed Smitherman to serve as the Vice Mayor and he continued as Chair of the Law & Public Safety Committee. 

Smitherman is also a member of the Neighborhoods Committee, the Economic Growth & Zoning Committee and is on the board of the Cincinnati Planning Commission and the Downtown Cincinnati Improvement District.
