Man Facing Charges For Illegally Buying Gun Used In Police Officers Death

Detective Jorge Del Rio

(Butler County) - A man from Trenton is facing federal charges and accused of illegally buying the firearm used to kill Dayton Police Detective Jorge Del Rio.

The U.S. Southern District of Ohio's Office says Delano Wells is charged with making false statements on a federal firearms form. He was part of a DEA task force serving a warrant last week when he was shot twice in the face. Del Rio died after the shooting and was laid to rest on November 12.

Three firearms were found on the scene of the shooting last week, including two pistols and an AR-style rifle. Wells allegedly purchased all three guns.

Records say Wells bought at least six fire arms in the past few months. He allegedly told officials he profited $25 to $30 for each weapon and bought the guns for a friend in Middletown.
